Here is a complete, step-by-step for each of your 21 stages along the Portuguese Central , Coastal, Litoral and Spiritual routes.
Stage 1: Arrival in Porto
Your journey begins in the vibrant, riverside city of Porto, famous for its historic architecture and iconic iron bridges. Take today to rest, collect your first Pilgrim Credential stamp, and enjoy a traditional dinner overlooking the Douro River.
Stage 2: Porto to Matosinhos
Leave the city centre behind as you follow the Atlantic coast, walking alongside sandy beaches and wooden boardwalks. You will finish the day in Matosinhos, a bustling fishing port renowned for serving some of the freshest seafood in Portugal.
Stage 3: Matosinhos to Vila do Conde
Continue along the beautiful, wind-swept Atlantic coastline, passing quiet fishing villages and sweeping dunes. Your destination is the historic town of Vila do Conde, dominated by its majestic 14th-century Santa Clara Monastery.
Stage 4: Vila do Conde to Esposende
Follow the coastal paths through tranquil marine ecosystems and agricultural fields shaped by the ocean winds. Arrive in Esposende, a charming town nestled perfectly between the Atlantic Ocean and the mouth of the Cavado River.
Stage 5: Esposende to Viana do Castelo
Cross the Eiffel-designed bridge into Viana do Castelo, one of the most beautiful historic ports in Northern Portugal. Spend your evening exploring its winding medieval streets or taking the funicular up to the breathtaking Santa Luzia Basilica.
Stage 6: Viana do Castelo to Vila Praia de Âncora
Walk a scenic coastal trail where the dramatic, rocky shoreline meets the Atlantic surf. You will finish the day in the peaceful seaside resort town of Vila Praia de Âncora, perfect for a relaxing evening by the water.
Stage 7: Vila Praia de Âncora to Caminha

Stage 8: Caminha to Oia (Spain)

Stage 9: Oia to Baiona
Follow the coastal path around the dramatic Cape Silleiro before dropping down into the protected, beautiful bay of Baiona. This historic port town is where the Pinta docked in 1493 with news of the New World, and it features a magnificent medieval fortress.
Stage 10: Baiona to Vigo
Walk along the stunning Vigo estuary, passing beautiful white-sand beaches and enjoying panoramic views of the protected Cíes Islands. You will finish in Vigo, a dynamic maritime city blending rich Celtic history with a fantastic local tapas scene.
Stage 11: Vigo to Redondela
Climb gently out of Vigo for spectacular, elevated views over the industrial bay and its traditional mussel-farming platforms. In Redondela, the Coastal route merges with the traditional Central Camino, bringing a wonderful, bustling energy as pilgrims unite.
Stage 12: Redondela to Pontevedra
Walk through ancient, deeply shaded oak forests and cross the historic Roman bridge at Pontesampaio. Your stage ends in Pontevedra, a city celebrated for having one of the largest and most beautifully preserved pedestrian old towns in Galicia.
Stage 13: Pontevedra to Combarro (Spiritual Variant Day 1)
Leave the main Camino to begin the breathtaking Spiritual Variant, dropping down to the sea to reach the picture-perfect village of Combarro. This town is world-famous for its historic stone granaries (hórreos) sitting directly on the water's edge.
Stage 14: Combarro to Armenteira (Spiritual Variant Day 2)
Prepare for a challenging but deeply rewarding climb away from the coast and into the quiet, mist-shrouded Galician hills. Your efforts are rewarded as you arrive at the hidden, serene 12th-century Monasterio de Armenteira.
Stage 15: Armenteira to Vilanova de Arousa (Spiritual Variant Day 3)
Walk the enchanting "Route of Stone and Water," following a bubbling river past dozens of moss-covered, historic watermills. You will descend into the vineyards of the Salnés Valley before finishing at the coastal town of Vilanova de Arousa.
Stage 16: Vilanova de Arousa to Valença (Portugal)
Take a break from walking this morning to catch your connecting regional transfer back down to the historic border. Spend the afternoon exploring the massive, star-shaped fortress of Valença and looking across the river at Spain.
Stage 17: Valença to O Porriño (Spain)
Cross the international bridge over the Miño River on foot, leaving Portugal behind for the final time as you enter Tui. From there, walk through peaceful woodlands and industrial valley paths to reach the lively town of O Porriño.
Stage 18: O Porriño to Redondela
Follow the rural Louro valley, tackling a short, rewarding hill climb that offers beautiful views of the surrounding Galician countryside. Descend back into the familiar town of Redondela, where you will reconnect with the main flow of the Camino.
Stage 19: Redondela to Pontevedra
